ASOS has seriously made gains this year in terms of the beauty brands they are stocking. I mean I thought they had a good list of brands anyway but somehow they have managed to improve it even more. This year we have seen brands like: Rituals, Urban Decay and Olapex join the website and even Charlotte Tilbury which was quite a shock to me. I know Charlotte Tilbury have been expanding their stockists but I did not expect ASOS to be one of them.
I have always been a big advocate for the ASOS beauty section but mostly I have spoken about their beauty boxes. I cannot remember when I first discovered them but every month I have a look to see what the beauty box theme is that month. Last month was a collaboration with Ouai which I did buy but I haven't reviewed it yet as I haven't had the time to try the products. Whereas I have tried most of the products in this month's box previously and in my opinion, this is easily one of the best boxes ASOS have created.
The Best of ASOS Beauty Box
When I saw that this month's box was called The Best of ASOS Beauty Box, I had high hopes because as I have already mentioned, they have some stellar brands and this box did not disappoint. The products that have been included truly do deserve this recognition and in fact they are all products I have tried previously. All of these products are ones that I truly love so I thought this would be a great box to buy so that I can have the travel sizes for if I ever go away. I also thought this would be a good one to talk about as these products are truly iconic and I do not feel like I have spoken about them enough on my blog.
Emma Hardie - Morniga Cleansing Balm
A good cleanser is worth the investment as it is the first step in removing all of the grime and dirt of the day and for me the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm is that investment. I don't know why I haven't really spoken about the Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm on my blog but I have never done a full review of this cleanser, yet it is my ultimate favourite. Back in the height of Youtube beauty blogging, this cleanser was a firm favourite with everyone to the point where this is now a cult classic and rightfully so. This cleanser is absolutely incredible.
You only need to use a small amount of this balm which automatically begins to soften and melt into an oil whilst it is in your hands and as you rub it on your face. The balm removes every scrap of makeup, even eye makeup. It is rare that I will use my cleanser on my eyes as I always feel like I have to work to hard to get my mascara off but this is the one cleanser I will use on my eyes as it works so well.
When I apply water to this cleanser, it feels so gentle on my skin and it is really easy to remove using a hot cloth. Once the cloth has gently exfolaited and you have removed the residue of the balm, your face feels so smooth and looks fresh.
Not only do I love the way this cleanser works on my skin but I also really like the scent. The scent of this cleanser really helps to reinforce the sense that this is cleaning your skin as it smells so spa like. There is definitely a citrusy scent with a herbaceous twist that is so refreshing by itself before you even start removing your makeup. I honestly cannot rave about this cleanser enough, the full size is really expensive but completely worth it! If you have not tried this cleanser, you need to.
Whenever I go away I always buy this size of the balm to put in my travel bag as I know I only need one cleanser rather than taking a separate one for my eyes, it just makes packing a bit lighter. This size cleanser is £10 and this entire box cost £12 so already the cost of the box has basically been made up with a product I absolutely love.
Clinique - Moisture Surge
I first discovered
Moisture Surge in one of these
ASOS Boxes. ASOS created a collaboration box with
Clinique and it featured a small tub of Moisture Surge and honestly I don't think I have every fallen in love with a moisturiser that quickly. If you are looking for a light, yet incredibly hydrating moisturiser, you need to try this!
Moisture Surge is a gel cream moisturiser that once again was raved about by bloggers back in the day. A lot of people liked to take this on planes as you can load up this moisturiser and it sinks in really quickly and hydrates your skin. It was slightly easier than using a sheet mask and definitely doesn't look as creepy. Also as it sinks in so quickly you do not end up looking like a massive grease ball, nor does it leave your skin with a gross feeling, it just feels refreshing.
If you have oily skin, this is a good one to give the hydration you need without exaggerating your oiliness. You can use this moisturiser both morning and night as it does not disturb your makeup and continues to hydrate throughout the day and night. In a way this moisturiser sort of reminds me of the
Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask but it is slightly thicker and less gloopy but it has the same refreshing feeling.
I just love this for Summer because it is a gel cream combo, it is cooling when you apply it to your skin which makes it the ultimate level of refreshment. It doesn't really have a scent, it has more of an effect which is what you want from a moisturiser. It is very rare that I like a moisturiser as much as I love this moisturiser and as quickly as I liked this.
Glamglow - Supermud
Having tried basically all of the masks from
Glamglow, I can confirm that
Supermud is my favourite of them all. Supermud is their traditional mud mask and in this case, basic is better. It is a charcoal mask with a blend of 6 acids which help to clarify and detox the skin. You have the option of using this all over your face or as a spot treatment. This mask is great as a spot treatment and as it is quite expensive I find using this as a spot treatment is the best way to make the most of this mask.
This mask can be applied quite thinly so there is no need to waste it. It does contain Eucalyptus leaves which does make the mask slightly chunky and makes it slightly difficult to remove. I always feel bad washing this mask off and seeing the leaves go down the sink as I worry it will block my sink but the results from this mask are worth it.
When I first used this mask I was a bit concerned as it did tingle a bit when I first applied it but it turns out it is supposed to happen. I apply the mask using a brush, spread it evenly and leave it to dry. This mask takes no time to dry and is easily done within 10 minutes. As the mask dries you can see the oils being drawn out of your skin and as the mask dries, it dries very hard so it hurts to smile. Quite often I will apply this all over my face and I will use eye patches under my eyes to hydrate or I will use a glow mask around the outer parts of my face and use this mask on my T-Zone, it is great for multi-masking.
This was definitely the best Glamglow mask to include in this box. I have seen the Thristymud mask in quite a few of these
ASOS Beauty Boxes so it is nice to see a different mask in this box. I like Thristymud but Supermud is superior and is definitely worthy of being included in this 'Best of' box.
Nars - Climax Mascara
If you are even the tiniest bit into beauty, you will have heard of the
Nars Climax Mascara. This mascara launched a few years ago and it saw loads of influencers taken to some tropical island for the unveiling which was the big thing at the time, it was pre-Covid. To be honest seeing this press trip put me off buying it for a long time but after about a year, I finally tried the mascara and annoyingly, it was as good as everyone said it was.
At first I didn't think I liked it as it didn't give me the wildly clumpy lashes that I love, instead they were quite separated but still voluminous and definitely lengthened. Over the time of using the mascara I got used to the less clumpy lashes and also the mascara itself thickened up a little bit over time so they did end up being slightly more clumpy towards the end of the mascaras life.
Obviously what the mascara makes your lashes look like is important but there is another big factor for me when it comes to liking a mascara. A key attribute for me is whether or not the mascara smudges around my eyes, which they so often do. This mascara was actually pretty good and there was only minimal smudging around the outer corner of my lower lash line which isn't too bad for me. I can deal with that. Overall this mascara is really good and I would recommend it. I do prefer to buy cheaper mascaras as they work just as well but this tiny little tube of mascara is going to be great for if I go away for a week.
I can completely understand why this has been included in this box, it is a mascara that most people would get on with and enjoy. This month Nars have actually launched an extreme version of this mascara which I saw Jamie Genevieve advertise the other day on her Instagram and it actually looked amazing. I now really want to try this extreme version.
Laura Mercier - Translucent Powder in Glow
There is only one product in this box that I haven't actually tried before and it is the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder in Glow. I have and use the regular Translucent Powder but I have not tried the glow version. This was launched around a year ago and no one seemed to like it as much as the regular powder. However I am quite excited to see how I get on with it.
The Laura Mercier Powder is a true icon. I'm sure it is what keeps the brand going as everyone talks about this powder and says it is the best and in fairness, they aren't wrong. It is a very finely milled powder that mattifies the skin and doesn't make you look cakey. If you like to bake, the Laura Mericer powder is great for that as it is so light and fine. I don't think the glow one would be quite as successful but to be honest I don't bake so I can't tell you how well it works or doesn't work.
The main reason everyone loves this powder so much is because it doesn't give flashback in photos so there is no looking like you've been doing cocaine before your photoshoot. The regular powder does exactly what it claims to and it mattifies the skin whereas I think there has been some confusion with the glow version. It seems too glowy to apply to your whole face but it isn't quite bold enough to be a highlight. Personally I haven't cracked this open yet so I don't know how I am going to use it yet but I am intrigued to find out.
I do think it is a little bit disappointing that they featured the glow version in this 'Best of' box as the regular powder is the best of the best and everyone knows it. I will use this powder and it is a great size to be able to test it but I don't think this is going to compare to the OG.
Each of these products are amazing products and this is definitely one of the best beauty boxes I have seen/bought from ASOS. Each of these products are ones that I really like and use regularly so these travel sizes will be great if I ever get to go away again. Not only that but this box was also a great price.
Considering this box was £12, it is definitely worth the spend. The Emma Hardie balm is £10 alone (as I have already mentioned,) the Clinique Moisturiser is £12 which is literally the cost of this box. The other 3 products are deluxe sample size so they don't necessarily contribute to the value of the box but those two products alone made this box worth the spend.
If you didn't know that ASOS create beauty boxes, you honestly should keep your eye out for the launch of the boxes because they are often well worth the money and they usually have a good collection of products with an amazing high/low value.
P.S. I will eventually be writing about both the ASOS x Deciem box I bought at the start of the year and the Ouai box from last month but I want to give the products a good test before I write about them.
